looks like it's right from the orvis catalog. nice job!
Very nice!
If you want brutality then the head is a tad big (front to back)....but the fish will not care.
Good job, that 'll catch a fish!
that's wonderful for an early effort.
you've got a deft hand.
now try something more challenging...
as for the fly itself, you want the hackle tapering from front to back. you can do that by tying in the feather at the head, palmering back, securing w/ the rib. I would say you want a smaller head but on buggers it's not as important, though the overall appearance would be better. I'd also consider shortening the tail considerably. it should be as long as the body. measure it against the hook shank prior to tying it in.
since you asked for it.

Ruger, That is TERRIBLE. Can you send me some? You are on your way.
It doesn't much matter what the fly looks like. What does matter is does it catch fish. I have no doubt that will work if fished in the correct manner.
Since you want it-
Double the length of the chenille body and the size of the hook, or half the size everything else and you're dead on. Darned good for #4, though. You are on your way to the top.
Nice fly. All of the previous suggestions sound good to me. (I even picked up a couple of ideas to make my buggers better. Thanks.)

The only limitations we have are the ones we put on ourselves.

Actually what I do is tie the feather in at the back with everything else but tie it in by the "widest" part. that way you're winding in the same direction with everything. Whatever works though, find your style!
