    Default Snow in the Sierras

Had a text from my buddy in Susanville letting me know Sonora pass is already closed due to snow. Hope this is an indication of a wet winter in California. Jim

I am usually not a fan of snow, but I know you guys need a record setting snowfall this year. I hope you get it and keep it west of Dallas.

I flew from Virginia to California today and I can confirm that the taller peaks in the Rockies of Colorado have a fresh covering of snow that extends almost down to the upper tree line. The same is true for peaks in southeast Utah. There was even a trace of snow on the highest ridges of the San Bernardino mountains east of LA. There was still some fog over central Colorado and clouds over northern Arizona, indicating to me that the storm had just left the area. The Fat Tops Wilderness of Colorado did not have any visible snow.

Obviously, from 30,000 feet I can't tell how deep it is, nor do I have any idea what things looked like on the other (north) side of the plane.

Sonora and Tioga Passes are open again. The temps are predicted to be in the high 80's later this week.
We could use some of the rain that the folks in the East have been getting.

xfishcop, thanks for that report. I figured it would melt off pretty quick. I just get excited when they close the passes early. Jim
