The .75 ounce tube is exactly why I bought it...it packs nicely in my travel tool kit. I think that 10 bucks to protect several hundred dollars of reels is a good investment, especially when you are in the middle of now where and not a big box store in sight. YMMV

You state a good reason for going with the smaller quantity, particularly if you're one of those ultralight hiker types that treks into the most remote locations to fish (as you sound to be).

For others with similar need, another option is SuperLube synthetic grease, which is available in a 0.5oz (12g) tube for $3 and will provide equal protection.

Thanks for the tip, Bugsy. Needed to look into this as well, and considering that you can get a 14 oz. of Superlube for the price of Hot Sauce, and it also comes in a 1/2oz tubes, I think I know which one I'm going to try.

I have been using a silicone grease intended for spinning reels (Garcia I think). It takes so little that I have been using the same small tube for several years.

I have hat my tube of Hot Sauce for at least 5 years, maybe longer.

I use the grease that comes with the Sportsman lube kit by Abel. Works great. Included in the kit:

Lite Reel and Gun Oil for all temperature applications.
Neat?s-foot oil for all gaskets and seals, cork drags, leather and other fibers.
High and low temperature all-purpose grease or heavy duty lubrication: ball bearings, plain bearings, shafts and springs.
Cloth for wiping excess oil.
Nylon abrasive pad for removing rust.
