Any suggestions on carrying a fly rod on a bicycle?

On the upper zhenry's Fork, there is a mile walk-in at the center of The Ranch. It is incredible, the number of folks who bring their bikes and ride in. Most I have observed keep their rods in their tubes and either hold them against the handle bar, or strap the tube to the frame.

I often bike up Waterton Canyon, near Denver. It is 6 miles to the top, so a bike makes sense to many fishermen. I usually put on waders and wading boots and put my 4 or 5 piece rods in the back of my vest in the rod sack. As long as I zip it closed around the rod, it stays there very securely. I don't like to take any gear along that somebody might think they need more than I do, so I leave nothing with my bike and lock it to a tree.

i happen to know of 2 teenagers who carried a 16 foot extension ladder on a motorcycle once, many many years ago. when they thought they was 10 feet tall and bulletproof. obviously not a smart idea. I'd suggest a piece of pvc pipe strapped to the frame, so that it's pretty much worthless and won't walk off. And becareful. I still have the scars from the ladder LOL

20150809_214508_resized.jpg20150809_214643_resized.jpgLOL! This is the setup I use for hiking in. Not sure it would work for a bike. it will hold 2 rods with reels, one pair of summer waders, my gigantic vest (with everything I own in it) a pair of wading socks, a light jacket, rain coat and various gotta-haves. I add or subtract as the distance/duration/weather dictate.

It also makes fishing a grab-n-go activity. Great fof fast escapes from the house.
