Default AMATO PUBLICATIONS - Magazine Review - Aug 3, 2015

    AMATO PUBLICATIONS

There is a lot of good (and some bad) information for fly fishing on the Internet. Sometimes though there is just no substitute for good old fashioned paper. If you are looking for a great magazine we recommend you check out one from Amato Publishers.

    One of my favorite publications.

Same here. They put out a lot of good books, too.

The magazine has always been way too focused on the West for my taste. There's usually not much of interest for an East Coast angler. Otherwise, it's well done.

Did you ever subscribe to Eastern FlyFishing?

Yeah, and wished I hadn't wasted my money. It's mostly content-free, except for an occasional article by Mike Valla. The freebee they give out in fly shops (Mid-Atlantic Fly Fishing Guide) is far superior for a regional magazine.

I'm not knocking Amato. They put good content into their publications if you mostly fish in the west. There's generally a nice balance of types of articles. When I lived in the west, I thought that Fly Fishing and Fly Tying was well worth reading. Living in the east, it's just far less relevant. (In fact, I get more out of the British publication of the same name than I do out of the Amato publication.)
