Default Team USA Medals at the 2015 World Fly Fishing Competition

"This year, the World Champion Fly Fishing Team USA took its first team medal, a silver, at the 2015 World Championship in Bosnia. Spain claimed a team gold, Bosnia/Herzegovina took the team bronze and Devin Olsen of Team USA, took an individual bronze."

world TROUT fly fishing championship... even the BASCAR type tournaments are up front in saying it's all about Bass. In my stinky opinion, this sort of reinforces the fly fishing stereotype to people who may only casually encounter the story.

I don't "get" competitive fly fishing.

I don't either. Actually, I don't "get" any kind of competitive fishing. Fishing isn't a sport, it's a pastime, a hobby, a diversion. Competing at it lowers a wonderfully relaxing activity to the level of all human greed, IMO. I don't even care to fish with people who count fish, like numbers are the ultimate goal.
People who have to compete at fishing just don't "get" its purpose.

Good for them. While I personally do not like the idea of competitive fly fishing, one's personal views should not diminish the accomplishment of the team. I'm sure they worked hard to achieve what they did against a pretty tough field, considering that the Europeans take this stuff seriously.

Just saying (primarily) that they should call it a TROUT tournament, not a "Fly Fishing" championship. Fly fishing is about so much more than trout.

I am a more artistic minded individual. The beauty of a single small fish in a beautiful setting, a cast that I see as perfect, the fight of worthy opponents on opposite ends of a flyline entice me to my hobby. While competative fishing does not interest me, I feel that it is not my place to impose my value system on other anglers. I regularly fish with gentlemen who "count fish". It does not take away from my expirience one bit that they expierience fishing differently than I do. I still enjoy their company. The fact that each of us takes something different from our day on the water is truely amazing to me. I believe that this broadness of appeal keeps our chosen recreational activity fresh and rife with opportunities for new expieriences, keeps manufacturers producing new products and provides the chance for new friendships the world over.

    Good for the team!
Competitive fly fishing hurts nobody and has benefited us all as past teams have brought back new techniques.
