Not a whole lot of info on this pattern, but apparently an Oregon favorite from years past. Shares a bit of DNA with the Stayner Ducktail, although this was used more in flowing water.


hook - Mustad 9671 #6
thread - Danville 6/0 orange
underbody - non-tox .025 (optional)
tail - golden pheasant tippets
body - chenille olive
hackle - mottled hen back
wing - teal flank


Part 1

mash barb, wrap shank with non-tox; start thread, wrap to point above barb




cut out center stem of GP feather




fold together, measure (gap width past bend), tie in/trim butts






strip end of chenille/tie in




wrap chenille (leave a bit more than 1 eye width at the front); tie off/trim




prep hen feather (tips should reach hook point), tie in by tip




sweep fibers back while winding, tie off/trim
