Reports of Sulphur hatches are beginning to come in and that means time to double-check the bins of the "big three". For me, these three patterns comprise nearly all of my Sulphur fishing on top throughout the season.

Bill, same here. All three of these patterns have a clipped bottom m and lay flush.

You haven't cut the hackle flat on the bottom. Does the fly ride up on the clipped hackle?

Byron, the hackle is v-notched gap length on all three. The pattern is supported in the film on all three. Clipped hackle will still keep a fly in the film, but doesn't suspend a pattern such as a Catskill style pattern may. the LTD hangs in the film by the CDC loop with the abdomen and tail submerged. The CDC Dun lays completely flat in the film since its also sparsely hackled. The thorax rides dry, but very low.
