    Question Behind the times

Wooly Buggers are considered classic as are Clouser Minnows. Are there any design marriages of the two that have evolved into a new classic hybrid of their own? I blending of the two seems obvious yet I've not heard of any new designation like Wooly Clouser or Clouser Bugger. I'd go for Clouser Bugger.

I'm glad spring is finally coming along so I'll have something serious to think about.

I don't know if it would be called a classic but I use the one shown in this set of smallmouth flies a lot.

    Interesting thought Ray.
There are certainly many other crossbreed or marriage flies. The Bow River Bugger with it's Bugger body and Muddler head comes immediately to mind.

However, I can't even imagine a marriage of the Clouser and Bugger. It seems like those two have rather orthogonal design principles -- ie, the bugger is shaggy and designed for lots of movement and the Clouser is very sparse and designed to sink fast. They also are both pretty simple with not a lot of parts to contribute to a marriage. I have heard of marabou clousers, but that doesn't seem to me to incorporate enough Bugger for a true marriage.

I was thinking more about a basic Bugger with a dumbbell or bead chain weight to assure hook-upward orientation.
And possibly with a mono loop weedguard for some serious bottom jigging.

    Ray,

Took a shot with a variation of Harry Murray's Marauder
