Thread: muskrat question

    Default muskrat question

I have a few muskrat pelts I didn't sell after trapping season. I plan on tanning them. I have a couple questions. 1- beyond the usual dubbing, would muskrat make good zonker strips?

2- I don't know what patch of muskrat costs. What would you call a good price for a full pelt? Is there any interest?

THis isn't a commercial endeavor, just don't need a stack of muskrat skins.

Think it costs about $1.50 for a small piece, maybe 3X3 or 4X4 inch square.

It makes a good fine dubbing. Don't think it would be good for zonker strips because of all the fine soft underfur.

I'm sure if you posted it in the for sale area you would get some interest. I have plenty right now.

I might be interested in one. I don't really know what a fair price would be.

I recently bought a nicely tanned hide for $7. I've seen them priced at up to $12.

For prices on hides, you might check out [url=http://www.hideandfur.com:d15f2]http://www.hideandfur.com[/url:d15f2] I don't think muskrat would make great zonker strips, but I could be wrong.

I've used it to tie big zonkers and other nasty streamers and it looks good in the water and holds up well. Since the underfur is so light and the gaurd hairs so dark, it makes a pretty cool bunny leech type thing.

They make a great crawdad pattern that was designed by Kelly Galloup. I believe it was a fly of the week here or you can go to Flyfish Television.
