I've been away from here for too long! so for my return I would like to present you all with a little tip on some free tying materials and a little bit of lure porn

I've been away at college for the last few years and have plenty of time for fishing, but not so much time for tying. Have just started getting back into it and made a little discovery. I've been working at a pool and about once every couple months we go through all our lost and found items and throw out or donate anything that's been in there longer than a month. Well while i was getting ready to bag up the stuff I found some of these and realized that they would be much better repurposed into flies instead of garbage

If you dont know what they are, they're called pull buoys and people basically hold them in their legs while swimming to keep their legs afloat so they can just focus on their arm technique. But they are made out of the same high density foam you get at the craft store. and they're a lot thicker.
So naturally I took them home and started cutting them up and tying with them

So as someone who works at a pool, I wanted to give yall a little tip. Most pools which get a lot of lap lane swimmers have a pretty big pile of these in their lost and found which people almost never come to claim. So if you want some free foam for tying, next time you go to the pool, just tell the staff that you lost yours there and wondered if they found it. Odds are they'll have a pretty big pile you can look through and just snag whichever color you like best. And trust me on this that nobody is going to come back for it and odds are in a month it and 20 others would just get thrown away anyways. So better off on your tying bench than in the trash

Cheers and happy tying!
