+1 on the above. For the record, I have some tapes I've wanted to copy over to DVD as well. Unless you know someone who has the equipment who will do this for you, it can be quite expense to have done commercially. About the same cost as buying a new DVD.
Also, some places may refuse to dub a copyrighted VHS to DVD even though it is not illegal to do so. Some businesses don't want open themselves up to the legality in the event you decide to sell the copy (which would be illegal).
