    Default Sheep Hair

Just got some Sheep Hair via a taxidermist. Yes hair not wool. Can someone tell me about the material to save me the time of finding out by trial and error?

    Lou,

I have some as well. I think it would be spun just like deer hair. What color? I have gotten several colors from different types of sheep.

The Sheep hair I have is similar in color to what you get if you mail order "light tan elk hair". I'm curious about how it floats when spun and if it holds up after a strike or two. Also if it holds up on something like an elk hair caddis. Also if it cuts very easy while spinning. I never remember seeing a pattern that calls for Sheep Hair, but, then agian at my age, there's a lot of things I don't remember.

    lou,

If it's the sheep hair that I am familiar with, it is excellent for spinning and highly bouyant. It is great to use for the body of the 'Coffin fly'. In fact, Larry Duckwall, ties that pattern with the following recipe:
    hook - 12, 1xl or 10
    tread - white (black head)
tail - black elk, moose, calftail, squirrel or bear
    wing - same as tail
hackle - silver badger (at least 2 feathers)

Material can be used for white Irresistible. Not sure how well it takes dye.
