    Default Morris Raccoon SBS

Skip Morris created this with SRCs in mind; I may have some other ideas in the works. Change colors to suit your needs.

    hook - Mustad 9671 #6
    underbody - non-tox .030
thread - UTC 140 hot pink
    tail - grizzly hen
abdomen - Ice Dub UV hot pink
    hackle - grizzly hen

    Part 1

mash barb, slide on bead; make a few wraps of non-tox and jam inside bead

start thread, prep hackle and tie in by tip

measure some grizzly hackle (shank); tie in/trim butts

double over thread to create loop; insert dubbing, spin (3 blips on the baby formula mixer)

stroke fibers back and wrap body

    Part 2

    stroke hackle back and wrap

brush out body (velcro'd popsicle stick works great), whip, SHHAN

    Scott

Scott, you have given us yet another good-looking fly. What is an SRC?

    Thanks,

    Scott,

Did you use hen hackle tips for the tail? Skip Morris is one of my favorite tiers, I try to duplicate his clean lines and proportions on my flies. I need to add this one to my fly box. Another winner from you.

    Thanks,

    Alberto

    Alberto,

The feathers on the tail are not quite hackle tips and not quite marabou, but fall somewhere in between. I bought a whole grizzly hen skin years ago and it has some interesting feathers, like these, on it. Either true tips or marabou would probably work just as well.

    Regards,
    Scott
