Peacock-bodied variation on a Burdock salmon fly. Not sure if that's the official name (found a blurry pic on an interweb search); looked cool, decided to tie it downsized for trout. Swapped out the deer-hair tail for moose body for a little more durability.

hook - TMC 5212 #6
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tag - Uni-stretch lime green
tail - moose body
rib - x-small wire gold
abdomen - peacock herl
hackle - brown (undersize by 1)
wing - deer hair


Part 1


Mash down barb, start thread about 1 eye width back from front and wrap back to point




tie in Uni-stretch but leave the tag long; wrap to barb and back, tie off and trim






pull tag end forward; tie off and trim






move thread back to tie-in; clean, stack, measure (shank) a clump of deer hair




tie in with 2 soft loops, pull tight and add a few more wraps




pull a few wing fibers back and take a wrap through (pull down and back); repeat
