I guess I live in a very small world, so to speak, or maybe I don't think outside the box enough.

In the latest issue of the Flyfisher magazine, the Int. Federation of Fly Fishers Winter 2015 issue, they have a step by step article and photos for tying the Super Renegade by Kelly G. Glissmeyer.

The Renegade is one of my all time favorite dry flies, a must have fly along with a Parachute Adams and a Griffith's Gnat. I have tied and fished Double Renegades as well, but I tie mine with the fore and aft body the same peacock herl.

Kelly tied this Super Renegade with a white chenille aft body using a 4X Long hook. He ties it to fish it as a subsurface fly. That is the part that surprised me. I have never intentionally fished my Renegades as a subsurface fly. I will have to give it a try and I suspect that with those three rows of hackles there would be a lot of vibration sent out through the water.
