    Default Tiemco 16/0 Thread...say goodbye...

Umpqua Feather Merchants will no longer be distributing the Tiemco 16/0 thread which is perfect for very small fly patterns. I copped the last that Bob Marriott's had , here in Los Angeles, and the only person who has a bunch in stock is CHARLIE CRAVEN at his shop in CO..an alternative is the 18/0 Nano silk which Cascade Crest now has in Black and White (color with a marker). One may purchase the Nano Silk directly from Cascade Crest...

Look at Veevus, just as good and very strong with many colors.

    narcodog,

If one has tied with both, then one knows the difference...

    PT,

A few other vendors still have the stuff (Bearsden is one I've dealt with before), although I'm not sure how much they still have in stock.

    Regards,
    Scott

    Scoott,

A friend hooked me up with a relative in Japan. The Tan and Rust, along with some Black will be on their way - shortly...

Why is this thread so much better than the others? I have used Veevus and a European thread that I got from Blue Ribbon flies and I like both of them very well.

Beats me - after I bought Veevus and compared both I gave my Tiemco thread away.

I threw my couple of spools away. For me, the Veevus was better, and easier to secure. I also like Bennechi, and Griffin Sheer.

    This is why:

" Thread: TMC 16/0 White, I use this new thread for a couple reasons here. It has good strength and is quite small. It is very similar to the old Gudebrod 10/0 thread but with better strength and believe it or not, it seems even smaller to me. It lays flat and works wonderfully on small flies or flies that require a lot of thread work..."

I have probably tied over 2,ooo flies with this thread - neither the GG's Sheer, Veevus 16/0 or Euro thread (Benecchi) lay as flat or are as fine diameter as the TMC..."threw or gave it away"... indeed

Veevus 16/0 is a corded thread. It is stronger than the TMC 16/0 but does not tie as flat. The Veevus 14/0 is not corded and seems like it ties smaller than the 16/0 . I use a lot of the 16/0 but am changing to 14/0 Veevus for my small flies.
