Default PICTURE OF CANE ROD FOR I.D.

I finally got the pictures of that rod I was trying to find out how old, refinishing possiblities, and just plan is it worth anything other than it belonged to my grand dad (so it is worth something to me.

Next feat, how do I send the pictures on a bulleting board??? Have directions from "Nighthawk" but not sure if I can get them to work.

I believe I may have a few "repeats" but let me know if it worked AND what do you know about the rod and any other info you can give me. Interested in if it is worth refinishing and possible to do.

Sorry about the picture mess, first time! Thanks Nighthawk for the info on transporting pictures.

    Hi Coach,
Nice looking old rod. From the pictures, it closely resembles rods produced by the Montague company in the old Chubb plant prior to moving to Montague, Mass. Chubb produced some fine fly rods and part of their culture carried over to Montague's production for a few years or at least until right after WWI. Montague ceased operation in '55 or '56 somewhere in that era. The ferrules on your rod suggest the Montague type ferrules, but then again, they were used by a few companies building rods in that era. I have a friend that has an old Chubb that looks remarkably close to your rod in the pictures....so that would be my best guess. I am sure there will be others that may get closer to a positive ID. Sure is a nice looking old rod that could make a very sweet fishing partner for you!

Yeah, I think dleo nailed it. The wraps and the case look like the Montague Splitswitch, so I'd say that a good geuss would be a Chubb/Montague (probably from around the 30's, I'm geussing). Now, just replace any guides that need it, re-set the ferrules if they're loose, throw on a couple coats of spar, and go catch some fish with it! But be warned: you will want to buy another 'boo rod, so start planning ahead for your next purchase.

P.S. I picked up an old Montague (a 9ft 6-7wt) a couple weeks ago, and it casts really really well-nice med-slow action.

Thanks for the replies. I found a local guy that is really into old bamboo rods and I plan on having him take a peek for more advice to go along with the advice received via this bulletin board. Thanks again.

I just got a new computer for home use and installed DSL yesterday so I can keep up with the FAOL news while I am at home.
