    Default Dacron backing splice knot

I am planning to fish for pike in the spring, and I'm putting together my gear now. I have two 50 yard spools of 30 lb dacron backing that I would like to combine to form a total of 100 yard backing. Is there a good knot to use to connect the two spools of backing?

I just blood knot mine together and super glue them. I've used UV knot sense on the knots before, but I rarely see that much backing...

I put a double surgeon's loop on both ends and then a loop-to-loop connection for saltwater; seems to work pretty well.

Boy, that's a lot of backing! But if I were going to do so I'd go with a loop to loop connection.

I agree with the loop to loop connection, but make sure one of the loops is large enough to pass the reel through!

Another option is to splice the hollow dacron braid. Not as quick as a knot, but it goes through the guides much more smoothly and is as strong as you can get.

Double Uni-knot, although as some have pointed out, you are probably not going to need that much backing, especially in CO. My personal preference would be to just take the spool into a fly shop and have them fill it up with a single line. Seems to me that if you are really after big game, the cost of a spool of backing is a very small cost to pay for peace of mind.

If you let a pike, ANY pike, get 50 yards away, you are having a very strange day indeed. If your goal is to simply fill the spool, then any old knot will work.
To the simpleton, proof does not matter once emotion takes hold of an issue.

    I use a blood knot.

A nail knot would probably provide the smoothest way of connecting the two. Same knot used to attach leader to fly line if not using loop to loop connection.
