    Default Zing Wing Material

Just wondering. Years ago I helped unload a shipment of toys from China. The boxes were tied with a material that was the same 'Zing' that John Betts introduced to fly tyers in several articles. He wrote that he found the material behind a Pier 1 store. Anyway, today I was unpacking some boxes and the contents were tied with both yellow and pink Zing material. Now I know that the material was used for caddis wings, shucks, dry fly wings and whatever else we fly tiers could imagine. Now I've used the material but I thought I'd ask, have any of you used it, for what and how?

It is still being sold. I bought some not too long ago.
I use it for the original Zing Wing Caddis like this one tied by John Betts.
At one time, it was the only fly he fished for an entire year just to test its effectiveness. Presumably he fished at times caddis flies were about that year.

Nope....I've read about it, but never tried it.

It is viscose rayon raffia better known as synthetic raffia ribbon. Google it.

I bought some a number of years ago and used it for caddis wings on a couple of flies. If I remember correctly, it looked good but caused the fly to helicopter. Obviously, I haven't used it in a long time.

I agree with Joe's results, twisted tippetts horribly. Tossed it I guess, haven't seen it in years.

Is this the same as Stalcup's Medallion Sheeting? I've got some but haven't used any in ages.
