    Default Ice Soft Hackle SBS

Supposed to work on run-ups from Hebgen in the Fall; may have to give that a try. Kinda like a Shakey Beely but a bit more subdued.

    hook - Mustad 3906B #10
thread - Uni 8/0 fire orange
    tail - pheasant tail
    rib - x-small wire copper
    abdomen - pheasant tail
    thorax - Ice Dub orange
    wing - Krystal Flash pearl
    hackle - partridge

    Part 1

Mash down barb; start thread back about gap width back from the eye, tie in rib and wrap back to bend

    tie in some PT fibers

wrap the butt ends forward, tie off and trim

counter-wrap wire rib; tie off, helicopter end

tie in some KF; let the ends hang out over the eye

    dub thread, dub thorax

pull KF back over thorax and tie down; trim even with hook bend

    Part 2

tie in partridge feather (by the butt and the fibers tend to stand out from the fly, by the tip and they're more swept back - your choice)

wrap partridge, tie of, trim, whip finish (since soft hackles are classy), SHHAN

    Scott,
That's a beautiful fly. Thanks for posting it.

Just recently tied some of these. Saw the pattern in Bruce Staples book, "Flies for the Greater Yellowstone Area".

    Dennis,

It's a very nice book, isn't it? A number of the patterns come from guys who frequent this forum - Walter Wiese (Longs for Cutts), Kelly Glissmeyer, and Doug Korn (dr korn).

    Regards,
    Scott
