Kind of a newbie question on Tenkara.

Except for the use of modern materials; isnt Tenkara fishing in this country a rebirth of 18^th century fly fishing?

Long bamboo rod, long fine line of silk with horse tail leader attached at the rod tip, no reel, flies of local design.

Pretty cool to me.
