North Forker SBS

Developed by Cliff Adams on Oregon's Willamette River (actually, the North Fork of the Middle Fork; guess that's where the name came from). Interesting combination of a hackled Comparadun-style wing. Supposedly a killer (not literally, I hope) cutt fly in it's day.


hook - Dai Riki 320 #12
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail - hackle fibers red
body - poly yarn yellow
rib - hackle (fibers stripped off one side and trimmed to 1/8" on the other) coachman brown
wing - deer hair
hackle - ginger


Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread at 75% mark




clean, stack, measure (shank length) a clump of deer hair; tie in, trim butts at angle








wrap thread to point above barb, create a thread bump; stack, measure (shank length) a clump of hackle fibers, tie in to junction with wing butts and smooth with thread






tie in poly yarn




prep hackle for rib and tie in

Part 2

take a wrap of poly yarn behind rib, then wrap forward; tie off




brush a little Sally on the body, then wrap rib forward and tie off




move thread in front of wing, pull it back and set angle with thread dam






tie in hackle




wrap hackle behind and in front of wing, tie off, trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN (rib looked a bit long, so I trimmed it up)
