    Default Cole's ILR Emerger SBS

Here's one variation on a common theme. Tied as a PMD (probably a bit late in the season); change colors to suit your needs. ILR stands for "I love rabbit", by the way.

    hook - Dai Riki 125 #16
    thread - UTC 70 yellow
    shuck - Congo Hair amber
    rib - x-small wire copper
    tail/abdomen - pheasant tail
    wingcase/wing - snowshoe rabbit
    thorax - superfine dubbing PMD

    Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread at 60% mark

tie in rib, tie in shuck; wrap back halfway down the bend

trim shuck (gap width), tie in a few pheasant tail fibers (extend shank length)

wrap pheasant up to 60% mark

counterwrap ribbing, helicopter end and smooth with thread

clean, stack, measure (1.5 shank) a clump of snowshoe hare hair; tie in, trim butts

    Part 2

    dub thread, dub thorax

pull wing forward over thorax, tie down; pull wing up and set angle with thread wraps in front

    half hitch x 2, SHHAN

    Regards,
    Scott

Looks like Gary LaFontaine's 'Mayfly Dun'. Nice nonetheless.

Do you have a picture of LaFontaine's Mayfly Dun? The only thing from LaFontaine that this is somewhat close to would be a halo emerger, but still very different. The only similarity is the wing tied over the hook eye.

Great tie Scott. I have one called the "Bunny Emerger" that does extremely well for me.

Different materials but 'similar' construction. Different enough in colors and materials to be another pattern.

See FAOL - LaFontaine's Halo Mayfly emerger.

There are a number of flies that the ILR does resemble, but the Halos I've seen have marabou shucks, ethafoam wing buds and orange deer hair protruding over the front; quite a bit different from what Howard put together here.

I was just talking about the general shape, fully understanding that that could mean an endless array of materials.

    Allan,

Gotcha. Speaking of the Halo Emerger, have you ever used one? Mr. LaFontaine has some great patterns I've used over the years, but that's one I've never fished.

    Regards,
    Scott
