Al Troth originated the famous Elk Hair Caddis in 1957.
I am re-reading Leonard's book "Flies". My copy is the 13th printing of the 1950 book by him.
I was particularly interested in his discussion of caddis flies. In that section of the book, he mentions a great caddis pattern by a tier in Salem, Oregon by the name of Don Harger. Leonard mentions that it was tied with "fine deer hair".
I did an internet search and did find a "Buck Caddis" which I will share here. I guess you see my question: if this is the Buck a Caddis of Don Harger, and aside from a tail, who originated the basic elk/deer hair caddis?
I realize not many will be interested in this, but for those who might be: any insight concerning Don Harger's caddis pattern?
Thanks.
Again, not sure this is the original Harger pattern, but bears the name Buck a Caddis
