    Default Winger Parachute SBS

I've seen this fly in a few books; thought it looked cool, decided to give it a try. Tied here in PMD colors; change to suit your needs.

    hook - Dai Riki 320 #16
    thread - UTC 70 yellow
tail - hackle fibers light ginger
    body - biot PMD
wing - hen hackle tips dun
    thorax - Superfine dubbing PMD
hackle - light ginger (oversize by 1)

    Part 1

Mash down barb, attach thread, wrap back to point above barb and make a small thread bump

even tips on some hackle fibers, measure for length (shank); tie in tight against the bump to set the angle

tie in moistened biot notch-side down for a ribbed body; wrap forward and tie off

take a pair of hen hackle tips (= to gap width), put them together with the tips curving away from each other, measure for length (entire hook); tie in at 70% mark

Very beautiful. I'm kind of surprised that the hen stems were sturdy enough to post.

Your next stops should be a wonder wing parachute and/or Datus Proper's Perfect Dun.

Very nice Scott, I've done it that way myself, but prefer to tying off on the top of the post or wing. Again as usual well done.

One of the first parachutes I learned to tie has hackle tip wings, but the tying method was very different. I think I prefer yours. I'll tie one up later using the other method to show you. Though it is rather an "over thought" method.
    Cheers,
    A.

One of the issues I had with this fly was a somewhat unstable wing prone to torquing when winding the hackle. Playing around with all the Hacklestacker variations lately gave me an idea so I added a little re-enforcement to alleviate that problem

    tail and abdomen installed

    Part 1

tie in loop at front of abdomen

prep wing, tie in (lay wing over back of fly), trim

hook the loop on the gallows, pull the wings up on either side and post

    dub rear of thorax

    Part 2

trim butt of hackle extra-long and tie in at base of post (unlike traditional parachute where I the the hackle up the post, this way is a bit more stable); the first few wraps of hackle are bare stem up to the top of the post, then back down (cup side up) to the base (I also tried it as a Hacklestacker wrapping the hackle up and down the post, but it was a bit too "fuzzy " for me); it also helps to wrap the hackle in the opposite direction of the that used to create the post to keep the tips aligned properly

tie off hackle at base of post; trim

    dub rest of thorax

trim loop at base of wing, half hitch x 2, SHHAN
