Wish Mr. Quigley was still around; he came up with some very inventive stuff. Another one based on pure speculation since I only had a few pics to go by, but after tying down a few blind alleys I think I worked out a fairly easy sequence; subsequent flies went a lot quicker. Tied here in golden stone colors (this should also work for the short-wing/nocturnal stone); change to suit your needs.
note the return of the damaged thumbnail (slammed car trunk lid); unknown if it'll measure up to the previous version

binder strip - 2mm foam
body - 2mm foam gold
rear feelers - rubber medium brown
body hackle - ginger grizzly (undersize by 2)
wing - deer hair
flash - Krystal Flash rootbeer
front legs - rubber medium brown
hackle - ginger grizzly

Part 1

a little body prep first; thread rubber leg through needle








then through back end of foam strip (gap width)






mash barb, start thread at 70% mark and wrap back to point above barb




tie in binder strip, wrap forward; tie off, trim and return thread to point above barb
