I have been fishing the last couple of weeks with my 5wt., but I always wondered if it would be heavy enough for big fish. After seeing this I KNOW it's heavy enough. Great catch. I bet that was a hand full.

Bill, it looks like your picture was taken in low-light conditions which required using a flash? A buddy of mine was just telling me In-Fisherman reported on Carp that (quote from my buddy) "Food consumption is 10 times greater 4 to 6 hours after sunset than during the day. They feed mostly at night."

Does that seem true for you? There's a spot I know where carp seem to come in near sunset almost every night. Very hard to catch on flies, because I usually can't see what I'm doing by then. I did catch a 30-incher around 9pm a few weeks ago...

I caught a very large carp in April 2013 (hooked at 7:30pm in the net about an hour later). This year's carp was hooked around 8:00pm and came ashore 40+ plus minutes later! I usually stop fishing and go home when I can no longer see in the dark. If you do not try to bully the carp, they can be taken with a 2 wt and a net in under 30 minutes. first timers DO NOT attempt this!

Nice Carp! I have caught many 30+" early morning like 6am to 10am. But I don't fish 8lb on my 5 wt! Six yes, including a bamboo.
