I found this very interesting video concerning old Frank Sawyer and some of his patterns as well as his tying techniques.
In the video, you will see that he liked tying his hackle in first at the eye of the hook; then tie the remainder of the fly; and finally wrap the hackle backwards through the thorax.

This is a very quality film and I found it to be a joy to watch and visualize the old River Keeper doing the tying himself.
