Has anybody ever used it for dubbing dry flies or nymphs? I bought a bunch of different natural colors from an alpaca farm, but I've never used it. Any suggestions as to how to use it?
Thanks

Bruce,
Never have used the stuff but it looks interesting. This link has a few flies that turned out nicely:

When you tie some flies up, please post pics; love to see what you come up with.

Bruce, I have used it in a dubbing loop to make bodies which you can then trim to shape. If you have the lighter colored stuff, it takes die really well. I use the alpaca fur to make heads on sculpin-type flies and also the bodies on Shenk's Minnows.

Is this the farm where you got the alpaca ? Notice the different patterns on his FB page:

Some Fly Shops also carry his product and one of these days I will get around to tying some patterns with it...

The stuff I have is all natural and not dyed. I orginally thought since the alpaca fibers were hollow and floated it would be good for dry flies, but it's pretty course. I don't get on Facebook so I can't see the farm. I can tell you that the lady I bought it from is from New York and I met her in the Watkins Glenn town square several weeks ago at a craft show.
I use it for Hares ears. Cut the fur into shorter lengths and then tie them up.

Seriously Good dubbing! Has unique properties that lend themselves to wet, dry, and fine niches. Get mine from a lady who keeps, shears, dyes, spins, and sells yarn and dubbing.....buy lots, she is going out of business due to cougar predation in Oregon..........

I have some natural and dyed Alpaca dubbing blended with antron. I like it a lot. It dubs easily and looks nice. I have used on both dry flies and nymphs.
There's an alpaca show at the Howard County fairgrounds, west of Baltimore, in mid-Nov; went there 2 years ago and had a blast. Going to pick up some samples this time.
