    Default Ferrules on 'boo....

    Considering there is play in the ferrule....
    Would it be easier to replace BOTH the male and female sections at the same time?
    If a "match is not available, can the male side be knurled or peened to make a fit?
    Got some boo we are considering messing with.....just considering for now.
    Thanks.....

    Lee;
    Sounds like the play is in the ferrule itself, rather than between the ferrul;e and the bamboo. I fyou're sure that's where it is, then you can tighten the female with either a drill chuck or a lathe chuck. Wrap 2 or 3 turns of masking tape around the femal, put it in the chuck so the the welt(raised ring around the opening)is just behind the jaws and tighten gently. Turn the ferrule and do this several more times, then try the fit. The trick isto go slowly and squeeze gently, you can always do it a little more, but if you overdo and make it too tight then you might ruin it. If this is a very good rod, then you might consider sending it to a rodmaker to be done.

    Lee, Another good tool to tighten the female is the hardwood ferrel puller like the one from GW.I insert the female and squeeze with a vise.

    Thanks!
    John, we have no good grass rods. They're all production stuff. Good practice projects.
    It sounds like Rich's method can be done without removing the female ferrule from the blank?
    Lazy we are....

    You don't have to take the ferrule off to tighten it with either a lathe chuck or a drill chuck. Most, if not all, chucks will have a space behind the jaws that the welt will fit into.
