    Default Brown Beetle SBS




    More fun with spun caribou. Change colors to meet your Coleopteraic needs.

    hook - Dai Riki 320 #12
    thread - UTC 140 tan MFC 8/0 brown
    abdomen - caribou spun/clipped
    shell - Swiss Straw brown
    wing - deer hair
    shell rib - flat wax nylon black
    feeler/antennae - Krystal Flash rootbeer
    hackle - brown


    Part 1

    mash barb, start thread (140) at the back end




    tie in rib and shellback






    clean/trim a clump of caribou; 2 soft wraps, spin and pack






    repeat 2 more times; tie off and trim thread




    flip it over, lay a razor blade on the eye (to establish the underside) and push straight back

    Part 2

    trim to shape; tie in 8/0 thread




    pull shellback over the top; tie down




    pull the rib over the top, bisecting the shell and tie down






    tie in KF




    tie in hackle




    wrap hackle, tie off, trim tip, half hitch x 2, SHHAN (on the shellback, too)




    trim antennae, feelers and hackle (top & bottom)

    Nice tie Scott. "Coleopteraic" - HMMMMMM, didn't I see that on the National Spelling Bee about round 56??
