Instead of the dubbed abdomen and thread hackle post (ugh), I went with a foam unibody construction; easier (for me) and additional floatation is a plus. This one's a work in progress but has some possibilities; in these colors it makes a passable spruce moth, too.

hook - Dai Riki 305 #14
thread - UTC 70 tan
abdomen/hackle post/head - 1mm foam tan
wing - deer hair bleached
hackle - barred cream
thorax - dubbing tan

Part 1

mash barb; start thread at 70% mark and wrap back to bend




tie in foam strip






wrap foam forward, tie off; pull foam up and back




tie in hackle at base of post




half hitch thread, flip fly over and attach weighted hackle pliers to foam strip




wrap hackle down post (thorax length), then back to base; tie off hackle






un-invert, smooth thorax back to post with thread
