    Default Damien's SUV Stonefly SBS

Not a whole lot of info on this fly and I didn't have one to dissect/reverse engineer, so I made a few modifications. The twisted yarn body (see Chuck's Caddis Variant), provides a cool segmented effect. Tied here in salmonfly; change colors/sizes to meet your plecopteraic needs.

    hook - Tiemco 200 #4 (I know)
thread - UTC 140 burnt orange
    tail - Krystal Flash black
    body - poly yarn orange
    overbody - 2mm foam black
underwing - Congo Hair dark grey
    overunderwing - Krystal Flash pearl
wing pad - 2mm foam black
legs - medium rubber barred orange
thorax - Ice Dub peacock black
    wing - elk hair
    indicator - foam orange

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread; tie in KF past point above barb

tie in poly yarn, wrap back to tail

twist yarn tight, make a few wraps (continue twisting after every wrap)

taper end of foam strip (gap width); tie in extending a bit past bend

twist yarn, wrap over foam tie-in, then pull foam back and take a few more wraps

    Part 3

tie in wing pad (gap width)

    tie in rear legs

dub thread, dub thorax; finish where you started

clean, stack, measure (extend to foam butt) a clump of elk; tie in, leave butts long

    tie in indicator

pull elk and foam back, cross thread over thorax to eye

    tie down elk

    Part 4

tie in front legs; trim elk butts

    tie down indicator at eye

half hitch x 2, SHHAN, trim what needs trimming

    dorsal

    ventral

Lots of parts, lots of steps, nothing complicated, nothing hard.

    Scott

Scott, an outstanding tie as usual. You truly have skills! That fly would do extremely well right now on the Henry's Fork:

    Kelly,

Great shots of the big bugs; thanks for sharing. Looks like the emergence is going strong; hope some fish are looking up.

    Scott
