    Default Christensen's Golden Stone variation SBS



    Kind of Rogue-like; changed the front end around a bit.

    hook - Dai Riki 280 #6
    thread - UTC 140 tan
    body - 2mm foam tan
    underside - Furry Foam (adhesive backed) yellow
    binder strip - 2mm x 2mm foam
    wing - deer hair
    mid-wing - Congo Hair tan
    legs - medium rubber brown
    indicator - foam orange

    Part 1

    insert needle in vise, then foam on the needle; start thread




    fold foam forward; 2 soft loops (so the foam isn't cut), pull tight and create first segment




    lay furry foam strip on one side and tie in




    pull foam back, wrap thread forward, then create next segment; repeat, tie off, trim thread, trim tag end of Furry Foam (not shown)










    slide body off needle, poke a hole in it and slide on (debarbed) hook

    Part 2


    start thread, wrap back to hook point; attach binder strip and tie down








    brush a little Super Glue on binder strip, squeeze body




    segment










    trim Furry Foam and top layer of body at eye

    Part 3


    poke hole at hook eye, pull foam up and let eye poke thru; tie off






    move thread back with crossing wraps over the back; clean, stack, measure (even with butt) a clump of deer hair, cut to length and tie in






    tie in rear legs




    tie in CH and trim butts






    move thread back to eye, fold foam forward over eye, tie down




    tie in front legs

    move thread back one segment, tie down foam, tie in indicator; tie off, SHHAN










    trim everything to length





    semi-ventral

    Interesting use of Fury Foam. Not seen it in self adhesive before. The original is expensive if bought for fly tying. Try looking for "Beading Mats" on ebay for a cheap sourse. Similar price for 6 or 8 times the quantity.

    Default another source for furry foam

    The blankets found in inexpensive motels are made of what appears to be furry foam. I found a queen size one at a thrift store for about $5. I cut it into 3x5 squares and used RIT dye and KoolAid to create a lot of shades. Here is a sample board I made up.
