Looks interesting. I've never done any, but I will give it a try. Count me in with a "Kreelex Tube Fly." I'll have to use bead chain eyes, in place of dumbbells.

Went ahead and ordered dumbbell eyes.

    HELP!
I've a question that maybe some of you experienced with 'tubes' can answer: Okay, so I've done the following: A)Cut the ends off a plastic Q-Tip and am left with about 2 inches of tube; B)Created a small 'collar' on one end by carefully using a lighter; C)Placed a heavy needle (it is about 5 inches long) into the tube with the 'collar' on the left side; Placed the left end of the needle into the jaws of the vise. Now the dilemma - Although very little, the space between the needle and tube is enough to enable the tube to spin around the needle which makes wrapping the thread just about impossible. Without the use of a specific tool for 'tying a tube fly', how do you keep the tube from spinning? Oh, I'm right handed. Anyone resemble this situation, lol?

I've read that felting needles work. They are tapered and bent on the end in a 90. Still trying to find them locally. Nothing at our small Hobby Lobby, but on their website. Walmart lists them on-line, too.

Allan, that's one of the reasons a bike spook works ...they have a thingy on the end which is like an adjustable nut that can be used to jam against the tube....some just have a bend on one end . Find something or make something with a bent end...... jam the flare against it [on the right] then jam the end of the tube against the jaws of the vise.

Nuts! I don't have any bikes. Guess I'll go to the bike repair shop and see if they have any loose spokes. Also going to a couple of craft stores to see if t hey have something. Thanks for your suggestions guys.

That's where I got mine ...the cycle shop...not sure if now the more modern wheels are made differently...they might be scarce.

Got Q-Tips at Dollar Tree. I bought the ones with white sticks. They had yellow, green, white, and blue. At 350 for $1, I figured white would be more universal. The tube is about 2"X 1/16"- no way to use a spoke. Still looking for the right pin.
