    Default Captain SBS

Wulff variation, apparently an effective fly in the Sierras; simple, sleek.

    hook - Dai Riki 320 #12
    thread - Danville 6/0 black
    tail - golden pheasant tippets
    wing - calf tail
    abdomen - Congo Hair black
    hackle - brown

    Part 1

mash barb, start thread at 70% mark (reference point for wing)

clean, stack, measure (hook shank) a clump of calftail

two soft loops (don't let the thread slide forward, then a few more tight ones

trim butts at an angle, then smooth with thread wraps

push the hair up and back, creasing it with your thumbnail; make a thread dam in front with a few firm wraps

    Part 2

split, figure-8, post, lock wrap behind, post, lock wrap behind, Sally

measure (shank length) some pheasant tippet; tie in and wrap forward, creating smooth intersection with wing butts

Speaking of Sally, forgot to mention that at this point

I brush a little on the tapered butts before wrapping with thread; makes for a smoother, more secure underbody

A couple other Wulffs in sheep's clothing

    Harry Murray's Mr. Rapidan

Thunderhead, an old Smokey Mountain mainstay; pretty much a hairwing Adams

I know I would end up slapping a gold tinsel rib on the black version and have a shiny yellow jacket / bee / wasp look pattern.
