has anybody got any experience with fish being shy of tippet rings
I think what I use on furled /twisted leaders are called tippett rings.if that is the case,I've not had any problems with them at all.
Best,
Steve
it's all good drifts
Have heard of just the opposite problem. Popular among chironomid still-water fishers, I know several who have surmised that some of the strikes they were getting without hookups were probably on the rings and/or splitshot, so as a rule they darken them with anything from a Sharpie pen to gun bluing solution to cut the shine. Supposedly this has helped.
I've watched fish strike at the tippet ring.

My only experience with them has been when dong some H.D. fishing, i.e., steelhead, salmon and with salt water, red drum - and all of this is when fishing from a canoe or boat. The rings allowed me to change lures quicker. Otherwise, when stream fishing or small lakes and ponds (again from the canoe) using one of my 5wt rods, I've found tying on a tippet using a double surgeon's knot and then a clinch knot for the fly, to be just satisfactory.
I have seen what whatfly mentions. I've seen both trout and panfish flash on the ring. 'Course for bluegills, often when fishing bass the bluegills will keep hitting at the point where the line enters the water. Once some years ago I had one of those heart attack moments where a big northern nailed one of those bluegills about 10' in front of the boat. That'll wake ya' right up.
If Tippet rings spooked fish I would have to scrap all my bead head fly's!
thanks for the replies guys
sounds like hanging a dropper from one should be okay
Toothpaste.
Polishing compound and a Dremel tool.
Fine steel wool.
All will shine up your dull hooks and help them attract trout better.
