Any suggestions about how to effective fish soft hackles from a drift boat? Sophisticated fish, not such a great heritage of the fly fishers. How is it done on the the White River in Arkansas?

From an anchored boat or get out and wade...oooopppppssss...yer' in UTAH which presents it's own set of particular problems. Contact TBird or Davy Wotton HERE:

Daughter to Father, "How many arms do you have, how many fly rods do you need?"

Easy, just tie a couple under some lead and an indicator and fish away.
If you mean to ask how do "swing" wet flies from a drift, PT's suggestions are spot on, as usual.
I once fished from a canoe with a guide on the Battenkill in Vermont. He had me cast soft hackles to the bank and strip back gently. I imagine just letting the fly drift like a cripple would work as well.
There is no wrong way to fish a soft hackle
