7/8 weight reel
I want to try my hand at Pike fishing this month, and I bought a RIO WF7F Pike line. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit on the reel I intended to use, so I'm now looking for a used reel that will handle a WF7F line with at least 50 yards of 30 lb dacron backing. The reel doesn't need to be pretty, but it does need to be functioning smoothly.
I'd like to keep the costs down and the reel weight down, too, if possible.

As he has done so many times during my life, my older brother got me out of a jam again: he gave me a reel that will meet my needs. It is an old Hardy Viscount disc drag 5/6 reel. Despite the fact that it is labeled a 5/6 reel, it holds my WF7F line and 50 yards of 30 lb dacron backing. I guess when this reel was made, the standard for rating reels was the double taper line, which takes up more space on a reel than today's standard, the WF line.
