    Default Frying Pan Flies

My son has an opportunity to fish the Frying Pan the 3rd week of June. He mainly nymphs and he asked me to tie up some flies for the Frying Pan. I am a Wisconsin Driftless fisherman and I have very little experience in Colorado. Anybody out there have any suggestions for some flies? I am not looking for looking for tying instructions.....what I need is a list of flies and sizes for that time of year. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

The best fly shop in Basalt (at the bottom of the Frying Pan) is Taylor Creek Fly Fishing. I would be sure to stop there.
The mysis shrimp are mostly (though not only) for the upper most section - just below the reservoir.
Be sure to have him stop into Taylor Creek shop there in Basalt for current conditions and flies. They are always helpful. The Frying Pan Anglers is also a good shop and more visible as you enter the town of Basalt, but I prefer the Taylor Creed Fly Shop about a block off the main street - right on the river.

If you call Taylor Creek, they can tell you the flies he will need. The Roaring Fork ( which the Pan dumps into at Basalt) is a good river to fish as well.

Check water conditions too. California is running 1-2 months ahead of schedule, I don't know about western CO.

The EPITOME of arrogance is a dude from Hawaii giving you/us tips on how to fish "the pan". He must have President Eisenhower's memoirs of His adventures on His favorite crick. :>)

    Marco,
Don't understand your comment? My son used to live near Denver and he and I fished the area many times.
    Please explain?

What's the difference between Hawaii and Illinois for this matter?
I'm from Colorado, but I think Byron has a better knowledge of specifics for this area than I do.

Actually, that would be the Fraser River, not the Frying Pan.
