Really about the best you can do up there is just don't put too much tension on the thread, and get your rod supports as close to the wrap as you can.
I've stopped wrapping my tip tops for several reasons. It is hard to support well, and I didn't feel the look of having a matching wrap on the tip was worth the weight added to the tip. It seemed to really affect the rod's dampening and action, especially on light weight blanks. The more that I build, the more I find myself focusing on reducing weight on the tip section.
