    Default Humpy Trude SBS

A gathering of ungulates. If, for some reason, you've got the Jones to tie a Humpy (why, I don't know), don't want to deal with upright/divided wings (royal PITA), and want to improve visibility to boot, how about a Trude? Lots of folks prefer calf body for the wing; it stacks well and looks clean, but I find calftail does a better job shedding water and if you pick the right hair (the stuff towards the tip tends to be a bit longer and easier to stack), it'll behave itself, somewhat. Usually, I'd skip the hair hump and sub 1mm foam, but we'll try to keep this one organic.

    Part 1

    hook - Dai Riki 320 #12
thread - UTC 140 burnt orange
    tail - moose body
    hump - caribou hair
    abdomen/thorax/head - Uni-stretch orange
    wing - calf tail
    hackle - brown/grizzly mix

mash barb, start thread at 70% mark and wrap back to point above barb

clean, stack and measure (hook shank) a clump of moose body

tie in, wrap butts to 70% mark, trim and return to tie-in

clean a clump of caribou, trim tips and tie in

tie in Uni-stretch, move thread to 70% mark; wrap a smooth abdomen and tie off

    Part 2

pull the caribou up and forward, then slightly twist fibers (helps to keep it on top where you want it); tie down, trim and smooth with thread wraps

clean and stack (and pull and stack, and re-pull and re-stack) a clump of calf tail

measure (gap width past bend), tie in, trim butts and smooth head for hackle

I love calf tail....but beyond that ...that fly is one "piece of work".
