A very clean maggot indeed; pretty, even. Words you wouldn't usually associate with them.

    Hans,
I notice no weighting on the larva. How much weight do you add to the tippet in moderate flowing streams when you fish this pattern?
    Thanks

    Byron,

Adding weight is of course always an option, however...

I typically fish the Maggot one of two ways.

    1. Casting to a sighted fish, finning higher in the water column
    2. As a (NZ style) dropper under a dry fly. The heavy wire hook is just enough to ensure a swift descent, but not too dense to drag down or influence the dry fly drift.

    Cheers,
    Hans W

Hans, you have given us yet another fine-looking fly. Is this one that rates well on your "Q & E Index", Quick to tie and Effective to fish?

I'd like ask for a rather strange favor. Since your flies, and therefore your name, appear with some frequency in the conversations of some of your readers and viewers, when you do another video, would you kindly pronounce your last name for our benefit. When I refer to you, I would rather pronounce your name properly.

    Thanks,
    Ed

It absolutely is on the Q&E list, this bug. Well worth tying and fishing.
