    Default Fishing in a Gale

I went fishing for about an hour this afternoon just before we were to leave for a church fish fry. The wind was blowing out of the north about 25 mph making casting any more than about 20 feet impossible but that was far enough. In that short period of time I caught seven trout. Interestingly when I took a small water sample I saw a lot of zooplankton in the water large enough to be seen by the naked eye. Did this have anything to do with the good fishing? I don't know and will have to continue looking at this question to see if I can find out.

    Very well done!
I went on Friday. The lake I fished was still 70% ice-covered, but plenty of open water on the upwind side of the lake. A friend had gone Thursday and caught 48 trout. Fishing was much tougher on Friday. It took me most of the day to land 19 trout. 15 of them came from one small area about the size of a bathtub.

Nice catching, Dave. Looks like you used a variety of flies.

I shot some video with a GoPro camera that day. First time using it. Hopefully I'll get better with it with use...
You can see the ice on the lake in the background.

    Thanks Dave.
Ice is off most of the lakes and ponds around here and I have been fishing Crystal Cove across the river in Nebraska a lot. The ice fishing for trout over there was good all winter and now, with the ice gone, the fishing has only gotten better. Interestingly, a black micro jig was good all winter and still is good. It is the only fly I've used for trout since the ice has melted.
