    Default Rough Water Flav

There is a post about floatant. Sometimes, you can dress a fly to give better floatation based on material selection.
This is a hackled snowshoe divided wing Flav pattern which should float pretty well with little or no floatant applied.

Very nice Byron. I notice you have done something that I do a lot. Put a touch of dubbing at the front of the hackle. I don't know if it makes much difference to the fish but I like it, and it makes my flies distinctive. Usually I'll whip finish and seal the head, then dub a short length of thread, usually a quarter inch or so, then form a second whip finish with the dubbed thread. That way the fly has no head showing. It is also a great way to finish off bead heads without the unsightly collar of thread behind the bead. I covered this method in my video here. The method is around the 6.30 mark. It is a Bead Head PTN, but the method is the same.

    Cheers,

Great looking tie Byron. I will need to tie a few for the Ranch. Thanks for sharing.

    AlanB,

I found your link, "I covered this method in my video here", very interesting and educational and I thank you for sharing it. I watch a lot of tying videos for how a person uses tying tools and materials and not for a particular fly pattern and your link was very interesting.

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.

Thanks Warren, I do like to think before following the crowd.
