    Default Microwave Dyeing

Was going to post a quick SBS on dyeing stuff with Koolaid. As always, I did a quick search to see if the ground had already been plowed (not much sense re-inventing the wheel, is there?) and found this

    http://flyanglersonline.com/flytying...wavedyeing.php

Great article by Tom Deschaine, very clear and concise instructions, although there's no way I'd tempt the wrath of my wife by using Rit in the microwave. By the way, this works pretty well on dry fly hackle although you're going to want to give it a bit more time to soak in; grizzly dyed Lemon Lime makes a pretty cool (western) green drake/flav hackle.

    Regards,
    Scott

They don't make root beer Koolaid any more. I was going to dye something darker brown last year and was sadly disappointed.

Actually, I'm sure there was a thread about dyeing with Kool Aid in which I and others posted about this subject many years ago on this site. Here's the Kool Aid site that has a color chart and instructions. http://www.thepiper.com/fiberart/koolaid/

Allan you are correct but routine threads are eventually culled. That's why Scottp's SBS's and others will eventually disappear...a shame.

Oh! My bad. I wasn't aware of that. Thought they were in some archive and could be found with a 'search'.

If you don't want to use kool aid dye with food coloring. I prefer food coloring. It is easy to use. Just go to Google and enter "Dyeing feathers with food coloring."

Yes Scott we do have picric available. Ask Lawrence Finney about the effects of exposure to it. We thought we would loose him for a while and he is a shadow of his former self.

You wouldn't get me using it.

    Cheers,
    A.
