    Default CDC & Deer Caddis

At first glance, this might look a bit like the CDC & Elk Caddis pattern. However, the body is tied quite differently.

Marc Pettijean's video (on-line) in which he demonstrates the use of his "magic tools" ties a nice, simple caddis pattern completely of CDC. He forms a split-thread dubbing loop and inserts CDC. Then, he wraps the spun CDC forward. He clips the underbody and clips the tail in a Caddis shape.

I really like the simplicity of his tie. However, I like a little more definition to the wing, so I add a light over-wing of deer hair.

Could have done a better job of trimming the underneath......

Looks great the way it is. I think the scruffier the better with spun CDC. I have for many years used the same idea with snowshoe hare for the overwing. It stays afloat much longer than the basic MP original.

Nice one Byron. In smaller sizes you may find putting the CdC into split thread avoids bulk (one layer of thread as opposed to three). I have seen Marc tie something not too dis similar, He tied the deer hair in at the tail. Brought them over a CdC body and turned them back to form the wing.

I notice that's the Petitjean vice. You can tie them on other vices! And visa versa, you can tie Marc's flies on other vices. Hope you are enjoying it. If you are not I'll start the auction with a bid of $10.

    Cheers,
    A.
