Thumbs up Post your fishing trip recipes here!

Best breakfast bars ever. Someone try these and let me know what you think.I found a basic protein bar recipe online somewhere and it was really boring, so I added a few things and modified the original recipe and now it's the perfect morning breakfast bar.
I'm not a breakfast person, so having something I can pick out of a pan and eat it quickly like a big thick cookie. In a hurry to get out on the water? Eat it while you drive.
?Tired of being hungry 2 hours after breakfast? Try 1 bar for breakfast and you will be well satisfied until lunch time. Each bar contains approximately 700 Calories and 20 grams of Protein and is why I named them the 720 breakfast bar.?

    Ingredients
    • 1 3/4 Cups - Skippy Natural Creamy Honey Peanut Butter
    • 1 Cup Raisins
    • 6 oz. Honey
    • 1 Cup Walnuts (Ground) or any other mixed nut combination.
    • 3 Cups Quaker Oats 1 Minutes Quick Oats
    • 1/2 Cup Flax Seed (Milled)
    • 2 Tbsp Wheat Germ
    • 1/2 Tsp Cinnamon
    • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla (optional)
    • 1 Scoop 100% Whey Protein

    Directions
    1. Add Peanut Butter, Honey, Vanilla, Cinnamon into a large 8-quart pan and heat on Low. Stir when mixture warms up.
    2. When it becomes as smooth as it's going to get, remove from heat and add all the remaining ingredients and stir with a Heavy Duty Mixing Spatula until all dry ingredients are mixed together all the way. It will look dry at first and hard to mix, but it will mix together.
    3. Dump your mixture into a 8" x 12" glass baking dish and firmly press evenly into the pan. I usually put my hand in a sandwich bag like a glove and use my hand to press it into the pan.
    4. Now place into a pre-heated oven at 340 degrees for 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool over night.

Sprinkle with Chocolate Chips and press into mixture just before you put them in the oven is optional. Firmly press them into the mixture. They will melt fast, so you only have a few seconds to do this.
No need to refrigerate. I just leave them sitting on the counter, covered with Aluminum Foil for up to 7 days.
Other similar size glass pans may be used at the same cooking times. Just keep a eye on it while baking the last few minutes. You want a light golden brown.
You can cut them into smaller size bars to make 12, or if you want a full meal, cut it to make 9 squares.
Prep: Get all dry ingredients ready, then melt the peanut butter, then dump in dry ingredients all at once and start mixing immediately.

I will definitely have to try that before our next fishing trip, tho we stay in cabins these days, snacks on the river are always good. My best fishing recipe is fresh caught and filleted walleyes fried in bacon grease in a cast iron pan right next to another pan over the open fire that's frying sliced potatoes and onions. OMG, is that delicious when you're camped on an island in the MN Boundary Waters or what. That's when we'd clean twice the amount of food we could ever eat at home and then look to see if there's a dab left.

When I'm on a fishing trip, I live by the idea that hunger is the best sauce; everything/anything tastes good.
Breakfast for me is usually oatmeal and a cup of mandarin oranges; may give this a try. One of those in the morning and I'd be good 'till I needed the headlamp to find my way back to the truck. Thanks for the recipe.

    Regards,
    Scott

I hope someone tries these. I posted this recipe on another forum and also gave it to a friend and no one tries them I'm interested to see how well the recipe works for other people and what they think of the taste.
There's not just made for flavor like something made from Starbucks or whatever, they are more for a hardy protein good for you calorie bar that keeps you full. They are good though
Give them to your kids before school maybe? Good brain food.
Be nice to see someone else try to improve the recipe also. I made these like 10 times and a change would be nice.

Two fingers of Wiser's Special Blend with a splash of WARM spring water. VERY low in calories and the fish get MUCH larger.

My breakfasts consist of eggs, bacon, homefries, toast and coffe. or maybe pancakes, sausage, homefries and coffee. If any ham is left, that is used too. If I'm in a hurry, I bake a potato and throw that into a pan of olive oil. Fry for a few minutes and then add strips of ham, green peppers, onions, and then smash a few eggs over all of that. A slice or 2 of toast with coffee. I don't get hungry till the afternoon. Randy

Hey Jack, I'll try your recipe, but I may have to make a few alterations of my own as I am diabetic ! Here's my contribution:
    CAMP EGGS
6 slices of bacon cut in one inch pieces, fry in large skillet until crisp.Drain of part of bacon fat not all !
Cut 6 slices of bread into one inch cubes and add to skillet, turning to brown ( my kids call this grease toast )
Break 6-8 eggs into skillet and immediately begin to stir and scramble.
Salt and pepper to taste, add any spices you like such as hot sauce, red pepper flakes, ketchup etc.
Add in any ingredients that you like such as Jalapenos, mushrooms, green peppers, cheese or whatever.
I like the eggs very soft, but suit your own taste.
Voila a one pan complete breakfast ! Paddy

    Jack,
my wife makes a very similar protein bar sans the chocolate chips and flax seed (although those are great additions I'll suggest to her). She doesn't bake hers so I'm interested to try that.I always carry a bar or two in my briefcase in case I can't get to lunch. Great with coffee in the morning.
    Thanks for the recipe.
    Best,
    Steve

Are those kinda like the no bake cookies? just heated on the stove or?

I think the flax seed is what make the bar a great one. You got to be careful though when buying ground flax seed. Some places want $12 for a bag, but at Walmart it's only $3.00 for the same size bag, same stuff.. different brand though, but who cares

Cold trout left over from last night's campfire, caught yesterday and bonked on the head.
