When I first saw this pattern, I was and still am right there with you being excited about trying it out. It's similar to the Splitsville Caddis without the paraloop hackle and will skate much better, I think, with the "planing wing". But being not so good with deer and elk hair, I substituted poly yarn for the forward wing/shellback. After propping up the poly yarn forward wing, I post it with a couple of wraps before thinning the back part and wrapping it to the back of the hook. I hope it keeps its ability to skate and, at least for me, will be more durable.

First try at a few mods; 1mm foam back and glued/squeezed/trimmed deer hair butts (from the wing) for the lip/forward wing
